Who Owns Your Eye Records?

Dear Frustrated,

Yes, you are being snookered, shammed and bamboozled... You indeed do own the entirety of your records, since they have an impact on the quality of the eye health care you receive in the future. You can demand these records, though legally the prior doctor has the right to charge about a dollar per page.

Talk to the prior eye doctor, but if you receive no satisfaction, the FTC has a rule that levies a hefty fine on optometrists who refuse to give patients their Rx's... The FTC has a toll free pone number that you can call: 1-877-382-4357...

At my office, we make a concerted effort to provide not only a copy of the Rx for glasses and/or contacts, but we also write down for the patients records any ocular abnormality, so they can show their records to succeeding Optometrists... In other words, what we do here is practice the "Golden Rule", treating each person as we would want to be treated!! When you think about it, life is much too short to go by anything other than this.
